ILULISSAT

This project includes the execution of the construction work for Ilulissat Airport

The new airport at Ilulissat

Greenland Airports International A/S and Munck Gruppen A/S have entered into the general contract for the construction of the new runways at Ilulissat and Nuuk measuring 2,200 metres. Construction work at both Ilulissat and Nuuk will begin in Q4 of 2020 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023.

The airport at Ilulissat is built with, among other things, a runway, two taxiways and a terminal area with an apron and building plots for terminal and service buildings.

  • In addition to the runway, taxiways and apron, the construction work includes:
  • connection to the access road from Ilulissat town
  • rerouting of sledge trails
  • parking in the terminal area
  • execution of foundations and masts for lights
  • earthworks for cabling within the railway and terminal area
  • sewer line, as well as fencing of the airport.

The runways at both Nuuk and Ilulissat will, among other things, be fitted with ILS (Instrument Landing System), which is precision landing equipment that enables landings with reduced visibility and improves the regularity of airports.
